Te Whānau ā Te Haate represents the many descendants of Te Haate.
Te Haate lived during the time of the british invasion into Waikato and during the time of the Battle of Ō-Rākau.
His time, his story, and his legacy remain as the driving force behind everything we do, preserving what was, and as a tool to guide us in where we're going.
With almost 1000 living descendants and generations of history, we hope to provide whānau near and far with an opportunity to connect, learn, and share.

Our Tohu
Our Whakapapa
Te Poutokomanawa
The central pou of our tohu represents Te Poutokomanawa. The hill and ūkaipō of Te Whānau ā Te Haate. Running down the pou are two lines which represent the two brothers Te Waro and Te Haate.
Te Poutama
The poutama, or steps, of our tohu represent Te Ara o Tūkaiteuru. Tūkaiteuru was atua of Te Waro, and this was the pathway Tāwhaki ascended to attain the three baskets of knowledge. It's downward flow from the central pou also represents the flow of water from the many springs across the whenua, down from Te Poutokomanawa towards and into the Pūniu awa. The significance of four specific outer steps represent the four children of our tūpuna Te Haate; Heperea, Te Waro ii, Matengaro, and Wipaea Manu.
Ngā Rārangi
The three main groupings of lines represent the three children of Wipaea Manu that we all descend from; Hineiwetekina, Te Waro Manu, and Peno Heperea.
